Salary: USD 154,445 - 185,334 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Search & Storage squad, which is developing Grafana's next-generation storage layer. This team operates Unified Storage at scale within Grafana Cloud and manages two essential features: Search (a unified engine for finding and querying all Grafana data) and Folders (for hierarchical content management). Unified Storage is a key component of Grafana's App Platform, enabling developers to build innovative applications using a Kubernetes-inspired Operator pattern to interact with data directly.
In this role, you will take an active part in influencing the team's roadmap and your own career objectives. You'll work collaboratively to deliver new features, iterate based on results, and drive projects from initial ideation through to operations in customers' hands. You'll design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning their reliability, performance, and availability. You'll participate in on-call rotations, mentor and support team members, engage in design discussions, and contribute to the open-source ecosystem beyond your immediate team scope.
As a remote-first engineer in a globally distributed organization, you'll meet regularly via video calls and need strong communication skills and an independent attitude. You'll have access to modern AI coding assistants (your choice of tools within security guidelines) with company-funded usage budgets to accelerate prototyping, testing, refactoring, and documentation. You'll also have access to frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Solid experience with Go, Rust, Python, or similar programming languages
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with large distributed systems
- Experience delivering projects end-to-end: gathering requirements, brainstorming, shipping to customers in a self-driven manner
- Experience developing software that runs in the cloud or systems engineering background
- Experience writing clean, robust, performant software that is easily maintained by others
- Motivated self-starter with bias toward action
- Customer-focused mindset with passion for creating intuitive products
- Pragmatic problem-solver who breaks down complex challenges and delivers MVPs with short feedback loops
- Strong collaboration and communication skills essential for remote teamwork
BONUS:
- Prior experience as a Grafana or Prometheus user in operational roles (on-call, hobby projects, homelab)
- Familiarity with on-call operations, SRE tasks, or infrastructure-as-code concepts
