Salary: USD 211,000 - 250,000 / annual
TRM Labs is an AI-powered intelligence platform helping public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt financial crime. The Full-Stack Product Engineering team builds comprehensive features and frameworks for both external customers and internal teams to execute and scale TRM's business.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will:
- Design and build reliable, scalable full-stack software used by all TRM customers, with deep understanding of customer experience and performance
- Develop and maintain public APIs as part of the API Product suite
- Work on complex engineering problems spanning technical details, project management, and cross-functional collaboration
- Collaborate with stakeholders to transform functional vision into tangible roadmaps with clear outcomes
- Support internal business units through shared engineering services and functionalities
- Design and build scalable systems, web applications, APIs, and services
- Lead projects as a technical anchor, mentoring junior engineers and enhancing operational excellence through tech debt reduction and knowledge sharing
The team operates on weekly sprints with a culture built on psychological safety, trust-based relationships, and accountability. You'll work with a mix of EST and PST timezones with at least 6 hours of overlap (8am-2pm PST). On-call rotation is approximately once every 15 weeks (one-week duration).
TRM emphasizes ruthless prioritization, challenging timelines with execution pressure, and time-boxed spiking for rapid learning. The company moves quickly—what takes months elsewhere ships in days. You should expect priorities to change as the company experiments and iterates, work requiring high ambiguity, and a pace that rewards urgency, adaptability, and outcomes.
Technical Stack:
- Frontend: React + TypeScript
- Backend: Node/TypeScript, Python, Go, with service-oriented architectures and distributed systems experience
- Data: Postgres, BigQuery, GraphQL, data modeling and performance optimization
- Cloud: GCP, CI/CD, containers and Kubernetes
AI fluency is a baseline expectation—you should be in the top 10% of operators in your function in applying AI to accelerate workflows, structure problems, improve output quality, and increase speed and leverage.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Backend engineering experience building and operating scalable production-grade services (Node.js, Java, Python, Go, or similar)
- Proficiency in modern frontend development, including React, with experience building interactive, design-heavy, high-performance UIs
- Experience designing and building scalable systems, web applications, APIs, and services
- Understanding of storage systems such as relational databases (e.g., Postgres) and analytical databases
- Demonstrated experience understanding customer pain points and bridging their needs to technical and product requirements
- High degree of initiative and ownership, combined with ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt quickly to change
- Exceptional ability to structure problems and identify critical issues to prioritize
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing
- Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional environments with diverse groups at all organizational levels
