ODP Governance is a cross-platform backend engineering team at Datadog working on cost controls and governance tools for the company's largest products: Metrics, Logs, APM, and Events. The team's mission is to give enterprise customers visibility and control over data ingestion costs and data hygiene, helping them reduce unwanted telemetry and prioritize high-value signals.
You will build performant, high-scale distributed systems that handle massive data volumes across Datadog's observability platform. The role involves partnering with multiple product teams to address recurring customer pain points—operational friction, cost overruns, and churn drivers. You'll identify opportunities to adapt successful governance capabilities across products (e.g., bringing a Logs control to APM) and connect engineering decisions directly to customer value and cost efficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building high-performance distributed systems at scale
- Building cross-team relationships and independently gathering information to unblock work
- Becoming productive quickly in unfamiliar systems and navigating technical ambiguity
- Anticipating technical dependencies and integration challenges early
- Recognizing when solutions could benefit other products and taking initiative to explore them
- Communicating engineering trade-offs in terms of customer value, cost, and usability
Datadog operates as a hybrid workplace with an emphasis on office culture for collaboration and creativity. The role is based in Paris, France.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of software engineering experience
- Significant backend programming experience in one or more of: Go, Java, Rust, C++
- Demonstrated expertise building high-performance, large-scale distributed systems
- Excellent English communication skills
- High proactivity and proven cross-team collaboration experience
- Comfort with or enthusiasm for leveraging AI coding tools in day-to-day workflows, including ability to validate, critique, and refine AI-generated output
- Bonus: Motivation to push boundaries of AI in software engineering best practices and contribute to AI-enabled products
Datadog encourages applications from candidates passionate about technology even if you don't meet every qualification on day one.
