Salary: USD 192,000 - 240,000 / annual
Datadog's Continuous Profiler team is building a production-grade continuous profiling product designed to run with minimal overhead, enabling deep insights into application performance at scale. As a distributed systems engineer, you will contribute to the core systems that intake, process, index, store, and analyze profiling data collected from customer applications. You'll work alongside runtime engineers, visualization experts, data scientists, and designers on challenging problems spanning multiple runtime ecosystems (Go, Python, Java, etc.) and novel use cases like asynchronous profiling and memory leak detection.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and building core services that power the profiling product at unusual scale within Datadog
- Participating in multi-disciplinary squads to iterate with customers and deliver impactful product experiences
- Owning code from development through production, meeting ambitious SLO and quality standards
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on various data consumption paths (UI, AI agents, integrations, partner products)
- Contributing to open-source runtime projects and advancing profiling capabilities across ecosystems

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Essential: Experience with Java and/or Go
- Proven background as a distributed systems engineer building high-performance, large-scale systems
- Excellent English communication skills
- Ability to meaningfully review architectural proposals and guide technical trade-offs in complex product spaces
- Experience working with AI coding agents to produce performant and maintainable code
- Experience collaborating with distributed teams
- Nice to have: Working knowledge of statistical methods (sampling strategies, Bayesian optimization, sensor fusion, etc.)
