Datadog's Continuous Profiler team is building a cutting-edge continuous profiling product designed to run with low overhead in production environments, unlocking insights into how customer applications perform under real workloads at scale. As AI reshapes software development, this capability is becoming essential for understanding how code interacts with hardware—both for humans and AI systems.
As a distributed systems engineer on the profiling team, you will contribute to the systems that intake, process, index, store, and analyze profiling data collected from production environments. You'll work alongside runtime engineers, visualization experts, data scientists, and designers on challenging problems including contributions to runtime ecosystems such as Go, profiling asynchronous Python applications, and helping customers solve memory leaks and performance issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, building, and contributing to core services that power the profiling product at unusual scale, even within Datadog
- Participating in multi-disciplinary squads and iterating with customers to bring ideas from exploration through to impactful product experiences
- Owning your code from development to production, meeting ambitious SLO and quality gates
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on various ways to consume profiling data, including UI, agentic tools, internal applications, integrations, and partner products
Datadog operates as a hybrid workplace to support work-life harmony, with offices in Madrid, Paris, and Sophia Antipolis.
Requirements:
- Essential: Experience with Java and/or Go
- Distributed systems engineer with experience building high-performance, large-scale systems
- Excellent English communication skills
- Ability to meaningfully review architectural proposals and guide technical trade-offs in complex product spaces
- Experience working with AI coding agents to produce performant and maintainable results
- Experience collaborating with distributed teams
- Nice to have: Working knowledge of statistical methods such as sampling strategies, Bayesian optimization, sensor fusion, etc.
Datadog values people from all walks of life and encourages applications from those passionate about technology even if you don't meet all qualifications on day one.
