Thumbtack is a home services marketplace that helps millions of homeowners find local service professionals and manage home projects. The Design Systems team owns Thumbprint, Thumbtack's design system used across web, iOS, and Android, plus the engineering tooling that connects design intent to shipped product code. In this role, you'll build the AI-assisted pipeline that moves product work from design to shipped code at Thumbtack. This is greenfield work: you'll create a bidirectional bridge between Figma and Thumbprint's React components, develop agentic workflows spanning low-fidelity exploration through production code, and build a prototyping platform where designers, PMs, and engineers iterate together. You'll work closely with the Design Systems team (a design manager, two product designers, and two engineers), partnering with Developer Experience on AI tooling and Frontend Infrastructure on the web stack. Key responsibilities include: - Design and implement AI-assisted workflows using tools like Claude Code and Figma MCP that move work between Figma, prototypes, and the production frontend codebase - Serve as the engineering counterpart to Product Design, pairing on patterns, components, and workflows - Evolve Thumbprint so it composes cleanly with agentic tooling: machine-readable documentation, MCP-friendly component metadata, and tight integration with the prototyping platform - Partner with Developer Experience and Frontend Infrastructure to build on their foundations rather than duplicating work - Engage end users (engineers and designers) through office hours, prioritize feedback, and ship high-impact improvements - Prototype and evaluate emerging AI development tooling, bringing informed recommendations on adoption and scaling REQUIREMENTS: - 6+ years of industry experience in software engineering - Demonstrated experience as a frontend engineer building production product surfaces, with systems-thinking instincts for tooling, workflows, and platforms - Deep hands-on fluency with the modern web stack: TypeScript, React, and surrounding build, test, and deploy tools - Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar) and considered opinions about their limits and scaling - Track record of building tools and infrastructure that engineers or non-engineers actually adopted, with judgment about onboarding, documentation, and feedback loops - Strong cross-functional collaboration instincts, comfortable working closely with designers, PMs, and partner engineering teams - Design system experience is welcome but not required; frontend engineering and AI tooling fluency are the core skills
