Back Market is a global marketplace for refurbished devices, enabling consumers to purchase reliable, affordable tech while reducing environmental impact (92% less carbon than new devices). The company is undergoing a significant technical transformation from a monolithic architecture to a distributed, service-oriented platform.
The Delivery Experience squad owns the end-to-end delivery journey for customers, from order tracking and carrier coordination to incident management and delivery exceptions. You'll work closely with Business, Operations, and Care teams to identify and implement improvements across all delivery touchpoints.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you'll operate in a "build it and run it" environment where your team owns the full lifecycle—building, launching, monitoring, and supporting your services. You'll be expected to show strong ownership, drive technical decisions, and mentor colleagues in a collaborative, learning-focused culture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating discussions on complex technical issues and advocating for architectural improvements
- Exploring new technologies with meaningful impact potential
- Contributing to high-impact incident mitigation and chaos engineering efforts
- Identifying and prioritizing optimization opportunities for delivery systems
- Building clean, well-organized code with a focus on system design and scalability
- Collaborating across an international team (US, France, Spain, Japan) with fluent English communication
The technical environment spans:
- Backend: Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy), Golang, Celery, Django (legacy)
- Frontend: Vue.js, TypeScript, Nuxt, Revolve design system
- Data & Infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, BigQuery, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Datadog, ArgoCD, CircleCI
You'll be part of a platform modernization effort, helping build efficient, loosely coupled services while maintaining high engineering standards.
Hybrid policy: 3 days/week in Bordeaux office (Monday mandatory); 2 remote days/week plus 1 remote week per quarter and 3 flex days.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years backend development experience
- Strong system design skills
- Experience with microservices and distributed systems
- Deep understanding of data architecture and APIs
- Experience with performance optimization and scalability
- Solid experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js, React, etc.)
- Ability to independently build frontend features
- Understanding of state management, routing, and API integration
- Consideration of performance, accessibility, and UX in implementations
- End-to-end product thinking with fullstack mindset
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to navigate ambiguity across technical domains
- Fluent English (working with international distributed team)
