Salary: USD 190,000 - 220,000 / annual

TRM Labs is an AI-powered intelligence platform helping public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime by tracing illicit activity and building threat network operating pictures. The Data Product team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Data to design and build mission-critical data services that analyze blockchain transaction activity at petabyte scale. In this role, you will: - Design and architect highly scalable features that integrate with dozens of blockchains - Build intricate data models for optimal storage and retrieval supporting sub-second latency for blockchain data queries - Collaborate across data scientists, backend engineers, and product managers to design and implement novel data models that enhance TRM's products - Partner with product managers, data scientists, and customer-facing teams to understand user needs and translate them into scalable data solutions - Write clear design docs, proactively share tradeoffs, and build alignment across disciplines - Mentor team members and enhance operational excellence through knowledge sharing TRM operates as a distributed-first company with hubs in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., London, and Singapore. The team is spread across multiple time zones and operates with a culture grounded in trust, transparency, and adaptability. The company moves quickly with high velocity and high ownership expectations. You should expect priorities to change as the company experiments and iterates, work requiring navigation of ambiguity, and a pace that rewards urgency and outcomes. The work sits at the intersection of AI, national security, and fighting crime. AI fluency is a baseline expectation—you should be among the top 10% of operators in your function in applying AI to accelerate workflows, structure problems, improve output quality, and increase speed and leverage. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field - 5+ years of hands-on experience architecting scalable API development and distributed system architecture, guiding projects from ideation through successful production deployment - Exceptional programming skills in Python; adeptness in SQL or SparkSQL - In-depth experience with data stores such as BigQuery and Postgres - Owned 0–1 systems: building pipelines, data platforms, or ML/BI workflows from scratch (not just maintaining legacy) - Ability to simplify complexity and communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders - Cost-conscious approach: design for performance, scale, and efficiency - Experience mentoring engineers or analysts - Proficiency in data pipeline and workflow orchestration tools like Airflow and DBT - Expertise in data processing technologies and streaming workflows including Dataflow, Spark, Kafka, and Flink - Competence in deploying and monitoring infrastructure within public cloud platforms using Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Datadog - Proven ability in loading, querying, and transforming extensive datasets - Bonus: Experience with LLMs or AI-powered workflows (e.g., prompt engineering, internal tooling, semantic search)
