Chainguard is a venture-backed software supply-chain security company delivering hardened, secure, production-ready builds of open source software. The company serves Fortune 500 enterprises and global leaders including OpenAI, Snap Inc., Snowflake, and others, backed by top-tier investors including Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Spark Capital.
The Platform team owns customer-facing capabilities that power Chainguard's products, including notification systems, authentication, and next-generation public APIs. As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will design and build backend services and APIs consumed across multiple product lines in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, build, and evolve customer-facing backend services and public APIs, understanding how different Chainguard products and customer segments use shared platform capabilities
- Own features end-to-end: from design through implementation, rollout, and iteration, partnering closely with Product Management and the Experience (front-end) team
- Create technical design documents and drive design plans with clarity and confidence
- Contribute to a product-driven roadmap with real deadlines and clear outcomes, helping prioritize tradeoffs and ship iteratively
You'll work in a remote-first, startup environment with a "ship it" culture where you're self-directed, comfortable with ambiguity, and challenged to grow as a developer. The role is highly visible and impactful, requiring collaboration across multiple product lines rather than ownership of a single narrow service.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of strong backend engineering experience building production services and APIs in modern cloud environments
- Proficiency with Go (Golang) or strong readiness to ramp quickly (Chainguard writes everything in Go)
- Experience designing, implementing, and evolving public APIs consumed externally and internally across multiple products or services, with real-world knowledge of versioning, backwards compatibility, authentication, and usability
- Familiarity with microservices and cloud-native architectures, including containers and Kubernetes, and ability to build observable, resilient production services
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including ability to work with PMs, designers, and engineers across multiple product lines
- Proven ability to thrive in remote, startup environments with high-paced, high-intensity culture
Nice-to-have:
- Prior experience building platform or shared services spanning multiple products or customer experiences
- Experience in cloud-native, containers, or security ecosystem, or with CNCF tools
- Meaningful open source contributions, especially as maintainer or regular contributor
