Salary: USD 243,290 - 295,250 / annual
Roblox is a platform where tens of millions of people explore, create, play, learn, and connect in 3D immersive digital experiences. The Creator Content Team provides the secure, scalable, and extensible foundation for ingestion, processing, storing, managing, and serving user-generated content.
As a Senior Software Engineer focused on backend and distributed systems, you will design and build backend services that help game creators reach the broadest audience possible. Your work will center on building and scaling large distributed systems, data processing and analysis pipelines, access control systems, and Open Cloud APIs—all central to content creation on Roblox.
Key responsibilities include:
- Solving a variety of unique technical challenges at scale
- Owning end-to-end responsibility for designing, building, testing, and deploying services within the Roblox ecosystem
- Guiding the future technical direction of the team and influencing broader engineering strategy
- Serving as a technical bar-raiser for code quality, architectural design, and long-term approaches
- Mentoring and developing fellow engineers on the team
- Designing systems and services that are scalable and resilient
- Collaborating cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and other Roblox team members
The role is based in San Mateo with hybrid expectations: onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience working on backend and distributed systems that are scalable and reliable
- Demonstrated experience architecting, designing, and leading implementation of mission-critical applications at scale
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C#, Go, Java, C++, Python, or similar
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related engineering field (Master's degree is a plus)
- Creative and strategic approach to solving hard problems
- Strong team-oriented mindset with ability to collaborate and mentor others
