Okta is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the newly formed Core Frontier team within the Core Identity engineering organization. This is a founding engineer role based in Bengaluru, India, working in collaboration with global teams in Europe and North America.
Core Identity owns the authentication pipeline, identity protocols, user sessions, and foundational elements that underpin the Auth0 platform. The Core Frontier team's mission is to ensure that sophisticated features developed across Core Identity (such as Native to Web, Cross-App Access, and Custom Token Exchange) are hardened, scaled, and seamlessly integrated into the Auth0 ecosystem.
In this role, you will act as an architectural bridge between deep product innovation and global customer experience. You'll solve complex distributed systems challenges at scale while ensuring a polished, secure, and high-performance experience for millions of developers and end-users. You will primarily work with NodeJS backend (TypeScript/JavaScript), with data stored in MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis, running on multi-cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure).
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as a founding engineer, setting technical standards and engineering culture for the Bengaluru presence
- Design and build innovative features extending Auth0's platform capabilities
- Contribute to technical quality, security, reliability, and scalability of systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Security, Design, Architecture, and QA teams
- Deepen expertise in identity, security, and modern cloud technologies
- Mentor and be mentored by other engineers
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical services
You should have a passion for simplifying complex problems, building resilient and secure software, and care deeply about the final product experience. Experience with or interest in Identity and Access Management is highly valued.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience (or equivalent)
- Proficiency in designing and building services with Node.js (JavaScript or TypeScript)
- Experience creating and maintaining public and secure APIs, as well as front ends
- Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems in cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
- Strong commitment to quality with experience in various testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end)
- Product-oriented mindset with ability to understand customer needs and collaborate on solutions
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM) domain
- Knowledge of security engineering principles and application security best practices
