Okta is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the newly formed Core Frontier team within the Core Identity engineering organization in Bengaluru. This is a founding engineer role that will set the technical bar and engineering culture for Okta's growing presence in the region, working collaboratively with global teams in Europe and North America.
Core Identity owns the authentication pipeline, identity protocols, user sessions, and foundational elements that underpin the Auth0 platform. As a Senior Engineer on Core Frontier, you will operate at the intersection of deep product innovation and global customer experience. Your mission is to ensure that sophisticated features developed across Core Identity (such as Native to Web, Cross-App Access, and Custom Token Exchange) are hardened, scaled, and seamlessly integrated into the Auth0 ecosystem. You will act as an architectural bridge, translating complex internal logic into a polished, secure, and high-performance experience for millions of developers and end-users worldwide.
You will solve complex distributed systems challenges at global scale while delivering a delightful and secure customer experience. The tech stack includes NodeJS backend (TypeScript/JavaScript), MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis, running on multi-cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure).
Key responsibilities:
- Be a founding engineer of this new Bengaluru team, setting technical standards and engineering culture
- Build and design innovative features extending Auth0's platform capabilities
- Contribute to technical quality, security, reliability, and scalability; advocate for engineering best practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Security, Design, Architecture, and QA teams
- Deepen expertise in identity, security, and modern cloud technologies while working on distributed systems at scale
- Mentor and be mentored by other engineers; contribute to a culture of technical excellence
- Participate in on-call rotation to ensure critical services remain healthy and reliable
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience or equivalent
- Proficiency in designing and building services with Node.js (JavaScript or TypeScript)
- Experience creating and maintaining public and secure APIs, as well as front ends
- Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems in cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
- Strong commitment to quality with experience in various testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end)
- Product-oriented mindset with ability to understand customer needs and collaborate on solutions
Nice to have:
- Experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM) domain
- Knowledge of security engineering principles and application security best practices
