GRAIL is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate backend services and distributed systems powering the Galleri® test commercial platform, including my.grail.com and provider.grail.com. You will own features and services end-to-end, from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. The role spans the full stack, including building and maintaining React interfaces used by patients, clinicians, and internal clinical operations teams.
You will lead technical design of projects with diverse scope, working independently and bringing designs forward for review at critical decision points. You'll devise solutions where precedent is limited, adapting existing approaches and exercising judgment to select the right course of action. Collaboration is central: you'll partner with product managers, clinical operations, and other engineering teams to turn ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans, advising senior stakeholders and adapting communication to your audience.
Responsibilities include writing and maintaining automated tests and test protocols appropriate for software operating in a regulated healthcare environment, improving the reliability and observability of systems you own, participating in on-call rotation and incident response, and raising engineering quality through code review, pairing, and mentorship of less experienced engineers. You'll also identify and drive improvements to tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and development practices.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Production experience with Go and gRPC-based service communication
- Building and maintaining production React applications

- Operating containerized workloads with Kubernetes and Docker in production
- Designing and scaling microservice architectures (service boundaries, versioning, backward compatibility)
- Strong working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) including schema design and query performance, and caching layers (Redis)
- CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, and agile development practices
- Software development in healthcare or regulated domains, including HIPAA, PHI handling, or software quality and validation requirements
- Observability and reliability tooling experience with track record of improving system uptime
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading small project teams
- Demonstrated passion for designing and building practical, high-quality software
