Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries including food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy intelligent systems that operate at scale in the physical world. On the Bionic Enterprise Platform team, you will build shared software infrastructure that enables Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) to deliver solutions across Atoms. Your work will transform successful deployments into reusable capabilities, making each new solution faster to build, easier to operate, and more reliable. Key responsibilities: - Partner with FDEs to understand their needs and identify which solutions should become shared platform capabilities - Convert proven implementations into reusable services, integrations, and components with minimal setup friction - Build foundations for AI-powered applications and workflows, including model access, business system integrations, and shared authentication, permissions, and observability - Create tools, APIs, SDKs, and deployment templates enabling FDEs to build, test, and ship independently while meeting security and reliability standards - Strengthen architecture, testing, monitoring, and failure recovery as deployments scale beyond initial use cases - Own platform production systems including reliability, performance, cost, and upgrades; establish clear ownership and support paths as solutions transition from deployment to ongoing operation - Measure success through developer adoption, delivery velocity, reduced duplication, and operational reliability; use FDE feedback to keep the platform focused on real needs The role is based in Mountain View and San Francisco offices. Atoms operates on-site, five days per week, as the company believes best work happens together. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of software engineering experience, with background in infrastructure, platforms, or shared backend services - Strong software engineering fundamentals: ability to design clear APIs, model data, reason about distributed systems, and make practical tradeoffs between speed, reliability, and complexity - Demonstrated experience converting specific implementations into reusable capabilities; judgment about when abstractions help versus when they're premature - Developer-focused mindset with care for documentation, debugging, onboarding, and making the reliable path the easiest path - Experience integrating systems through APIs, authentication, and data pipelines; understanding of access controls and secure business data handling - Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD, and production observability (GCP or Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes experience is a plus) - Experience building AI-powered applications or supporting infrastructure (model gateways, tool integrations, workflow execution, evaluations) - Effective use of AI coding tools with ability to understand, test, debug, and maintain built systems - Strong ownership and collaboration; ability to work alongside FDEs moving quickly, solve immediate delivery problems, and scale learnings across the team
