Rippling is building an integrated platform that consolidates HR, IT, and Finance operations into a single system. The company manages payroll, expenses, benefits, device provisioning, and third-party app integrations—enabling businesses to onboard employees globally in 90 seconds.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Security team, you will design and build the core services, APIs, and platform primitives that power Rippling's multi-product ecosystem. You'll own backend systems handling permissions, policy enforcement, approvals, payments, device and app management, procurement, asset tracking, and secure handling of sensitive workforce and financial data.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing backend services and APIs for critical product capabilities
- Building reliable, secure, and scalable systems for high-volume workflows across Spend, IT, identity, access, approvals, and compliance
- Making strategic technical decisions around architecture, infrastructure, data modeling, performance, and operational reliability
- Translating business and customer needs into robust technical solutions in partnership with product, frontend, platform, design, and cross-functional teams
- Evolving systems involving workflows, permissions, policy enforcement, financial operations, device and app management, and security controls
- Raising the technical bar through system design, code reviews, design reviews, mentorship, and backend engineering best practices
- Supporting Rippling's expansion of AI-powered workflows across HR, IT, Finance, and Spend, ensuring AI capabilities are safe, reliable, explainable, auditable, and enterprise-ready
You'll be an early member of Rippling's security team with meaningful impact on the security program's priorities and direction. The role involves hands-on engineering with significant scope across a multi-product platform handling sensitive data.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of production experience using Python, Go, or similar high-scale backend languages
- Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture, data modeling, and performance optimization of relational databases
- Experience contributing to systems operating at significant technical and organizational scale
- Strong understanding of CS/algorithms fundamentals and experience with complex project delivery
- Exceptional communication skills with technical and cross-functional stakeholders
