Salary: USD 173,000 - 255,000 / annual
Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and scale the data platforms and services that process loan originations in real time and deliver accurate reporting to Affirm and its financial partners. You will own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems while ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring team support throughout delivery
- Supporting peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics; participating in ideation; articulating technical constraints; and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs
- Proactively identifying project, process, technology, or business issues, advocating for them, and leading in solving them
- Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts
- Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them through writing and tech talks
- Developing talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example
You will work on systems that power Affirm's mission of giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time with no hidden fees or surprises. The role focuses on solving complex problems through exceptional engineering in a remote-first environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
- Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
- Deep expertise in designing and operating scalable backend data pipelines and batch processing systems using Spark, Airflow, or similar distributed frameworks
- Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs; ability to write high-quality code easily understood and used by others
- Proficiency at making significant changes in large codebases and developing tools and practices that enable safe changes
- Demonstrated ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with global engineering teams
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
