Salary: CAD 153,000 - 213,000 / annual
Affirm is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join the Lakehouse Infrastructure team within Data and Storage Services. The team is responsible for Affirm's data infrastructure spanning OLTP and OLAP systems, including online checkout databases, batch orchestration, streaming infrastructure, event-driven frameworks, BI, analytics tooling, and large-scale data platforms.
The Lakehouse Infra team's vision is to provide reliable, scalable, self-serve, and Affirm-optimized offline data access to enable ML, Product, and Financial Engineering success. You will own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems while ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery.
Key responsibilities include:

- Supporting peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics through ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on risk-aware decisions
- Proactively identifying project, process, technology, or business issues, advocating for them, and leading solutions
- Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts
- Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them through writing and tech talks
- Developing talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example

Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
- Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
- Experience scaling relevant technologies such as Iceberg, Flink, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, and Terraform
- Experience defining technical plans for significant feature or system component delivery with elegant, simple, and extensible design
- Ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others
- Proficiency at making significant changes in large codebases with developed tools and practices for safe execution
- Demonstrated ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with global engineering teams
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
