Salary: CAD 188,000 - 242,000 / annual
Justworks is an HR and payroll platform helping businesses streamline HR operations and compliance. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Backend team, you will independently own large-scoped projects from discovery through launch, with a focus on customer outcomes and impact.
You will collaborate across product, design, and engineering to solve customer challenges while improving the performance, reliability, and scalability of existing systems. Key responsibilities include:
• Independently own large-scoped projects from initial discovery through launch with focus on outcomes and customer impact
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to find solutions to customer challenges
• Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of existing systems
• Promote engineering excellence through technical leadership, knowledge-sharing, and mentorship
• Add capabilities to high-volume, fault-tolerant processing infrastructure
• Enhance testing, monitoring, and continuous deployment infrastructure
• Maintain security and compartmentalization of sensitive data
You will be expected to exercise good judgment, demonstrate resourcefulness, communicate effectively, and foster a collaborative environment. Tech stack includes Golang, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, MySQL, Kafka, AWS, Git, Memcache, Redis, ElasticSearch, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, CircleCI, and DataDog.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum 5 years of professional hands-on backend engineering experience
• Mastery of modern server-side languages (Golang is a plus but not required)
• Proficiency with SQL
• Proficiency with cloud infrastructure management, preferably AWS
• Experience supporting and mentoring other engineers; ability to act as a force multiplier
• Experience working closely with designers and product managers
