Salary: CAD 153,000 - 213,000 / annual
Affirm is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Identity Data) to own and deliver high-availability, low-latency systems on critical paths for consumer onboarding, authentication, and verification across Affirm's product surfaces.
In this role, you will:
- Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems while ensuring team support throughout delivery
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs
- Proactively identify and advocate for project, process, technology, or business issues, and lead in solving them
- Support operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call efforts
- Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them across the organization through writing and tech talks
- Develop talent on your team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example
About Affirm: Affirm gives people a clear, predictable way to pay over time with no hidden fees or surprises. The Identity Engineering team owns systems responsible for all consumer onboarding and authentication journeys across Affirm's product surfaces.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
- Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
- Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs; ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others
- Proficiency at making significant changes in large codebases and developing tools and practices that enable safe, large-scale changes
- Demonstrated ownership of your own growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with global engineering teams
