GetYourGuide is the globally leading marketplace for travel experiences, with over 150 million bookings since 2009. The company operates from Berlin with 17 offices worldwide and a team of 800+ travel experts and technologists.
The User Platform team is a newly formed function building the traveler context layer—a unified system that resolves user identity across devices and sessions, consolidating data from identity systems, booking history, browsing behavior, customer care conversations, preferences, and predictive signals. This scattered data currently lives in separate systems; the team's mission is to create a shared, interpretable, and predictive understanding that all internal teams can leverage. As the function matures, scope will extend to other user types.
In this role, you will:
- Design and develop efficient, scalable backend solutions using Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, Kafka, and Kubernetes
- Work cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and analysts to enable rapid iteration and customer learning
- Help design, launch, and iterate on A/B experiments to validate hypotheses
- Mentor team members and participate in hiring
- Contribute to the team's roadmap and long-term technical strategy
- Maintain high code quality standards and continuously improve systems and processes
- Lead thoughtful adoption and evaluation of AI tools, supporting the team in applying AI effectively while maintaining quality, security, and governance standards
The team works hybrid: three days in-office (Mon, Tue, Thu) with two optional at-home focus days. You'll have flexibility to work remotely anywhere in the world for 30 days per year.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of software development experience
- High proficiency in Java
- Expertise in web application development using component-based frameworks
- Experience designing architecture and deployment of web applications and services
- Experience writing tests
- Ability to turn ideas into fast, reliable, and maintainable code
- Positive, proactive team player passionate about craft
- Customer-centric prioritization and data-driven decision-making
- Mature judgment in choosing when and how to use AI tools; ability to lead team adoption of new AI technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with ability to explain technical concepts clearly
