GetYourGuide is a global travel marketplace connecting millions of travelers with unforgettable experiences. The Marketplace team builds the technology that powers this platform, from search and recommendation systems to supplier infrastructure and innovative booking capabilities.
In this Senior Software Engineer role (backend-focused), you'll work within a cross-functional mission team of backend engineers, full-stack engineers, mobile engineers, data engineers, product managers, and designers. You'll collaborate on complex, large-scale problems that impact travelers and partners globally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing efficient, scalable solutions for distributed systems
- Collaborating across functions to iterate quickly and learn from customers through A/B experiments
- Continuously improving the codebase, systems, and processes
- Mentoring team members and participating in hiring
- Working across the full stack with technologies including Java, Spring Boot, PHP, Vue.js, TypeScript, Node.js, MySQL, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, Kafka, OpenSearch, and Kubernetes
- Demonstrating mature judgment in adopting and evaluating AI tools, leading the team in effective AI adoption while maintaining quality and security standards
The role offers a hybrid working arrangement with three days in-office collaboration (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) and two days of optional remote focus time. You'll have flexibility to work from anywhere for 30 days per year.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of software development experience with distributed systems or search engines
- High proficiency in Java
- Experience designing and deploying large-scale distributed systems
- Experience building reliable and observable systems
- Ability to turn ideas into fast, reliable, and maintainable code
- Strong prioritization and stakeholder management skills with excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Customer-centric mindset with data-driven decision-making approach
- Fluent English (written and verbal)
Desirable qualifications:
- Experience with A/B testing, hypothesis building, and event-based analytics
- Familiarity with Node.js, Vue.js, or similar component-based frontend frameworks
- Background in e-commerce
- Prior startup experience
