Salary: EUR 93,000 - 143,000 / annual
Squarespace is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Databases team within Infrastructure Foundations. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring Squarespace's infrastructure operates seamlessly and reliably for product engineering stakeholders and millions of customers worldwide.
You will maintain key backend infrastructure powering the Squarespace platform and build automation and tooling to help scale infrastructure. You'll develop against a backend tech stack composed of MongoDB, CockroachDB, Kafka, and other components, with responsibility for designing, architecting, and provisioning new infrastructure to unlock new product functionality.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop automation that interacts with infrastructure in the GCP cloud
- Drive performance improvements and enhance scalability for infrastructure components like MongoDB, CockroachDB, and Kafka
- Collaborate with engineering teams across Squarespace on building new services that scale for the future
- Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and professional development by participating in technical design reviews and mentoring junior team members
- Work with MongoDB, CockroachDB, Kafka, and similar infrastructure components
The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days in the Dublin office and 2 days working from home. You will report to the Databases Engineering Team Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of experience developing backend systems with GoLang or similar object-oriented programming languages
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, databases, and software design principles
- Experience with GoLang, document databases, and relational databases
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and messaging tools (e.g., Kafka)
- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Proven ability to take technical ownership, lead large complex projects, and influence architectural direction across teams
