vCluster Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to architect and build the core of the vCluster Platform, a Kubernetes multi-tenancy solution trusted by the world's leading AI cloud builders and Fortune 500 companies. The company is venture-backed (raised $28M+ from Khosla Ventures and others), headquartered in San Francisco, and operates with a remote-first culture.
In this role, you will work intimately with Kubernetes internals to push the boundaries of container orchestration and build tools used by leading engineering teams. You'll take full ownership of feature development from technical design through release, writing high-performance, resilient Go code that powers the vCluster platform's core logic. You'll engage with the open-source community, contribute to vCluster's projects (11,000+ GitHub stars, 40M+ tenant clusters created since 2021), and help define the next generation of tenancy models for isolation and resource sharing.
Key responsibilities include: deep-diving into Kubernetes internals and architecture; developing end-to-end features with minimal oversight; solving hard engineering challenges that require systems-level thinking; and contributing to open-source innovation. The role emphasizes technical problem-solving, autonomous work, and making measurable impact on mission-critical infrastructure.
vCluster Labs powers over 100,000 GPUs and 1 million CPUs across 50+ AI clouds, providing AI cloud providers and AI factories a hyperscaler-like experience on their own GPU infrastructure. The platform runs the full stack from bare metal provisioning through managed Kubernetes, Slurm, Ray, and inference clusters.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes internals, including architectural patterns, networking, and storage
- Strong programming skills in Go; ability to translate Kubernetes knowledge into clean, efficient code
- Builder mindset: active GitHub projects, experiments, or open-source contributions demonstrating passion for building
- High agency and self-driven approach; comfortable identifying and solving problems autonomously
- Experience in high-growth, early-stage environments; comfort with ambiguity
- Bonus: history of contributions to the Kubernetes project (upstream), including documentation, PRs, or SIG participation
- Bonus: experience at early-stage organizations functioning autonomously
