vCluster Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to architect and build core infrastructure for the vCluster Platform, a Kubernetes-native tenant isolation solution used by leading AI cloud providers and Fortune 500 companies. The company is venture-backed (raised $28M+ from Khosla Ventures and others), headquartered in San Francisco, and operates a remote-first, globally distributed team. In this role, you will: - Work deeply with Kubernetes internals to push the boundaries of container orchestration and tenant isolation, moving beyond simple namespace-based approaches. - Write high-performance, resilient Go code that powers the core logic of the vCluster platform. - Own features end-to-end, from technical design through release, with minimal oversight. You are self-driven and capable of identifying and solving problems autonomously. - Engage with the open-source community, contribute to vCluster's public projects (11,000+ GitHub stars, 40M+ tenant clusters created since 2021), and help define next-generation tenancy models. - Tackle hard systems engineering challenges that require deep architectural understanding rather than surface-level solutions. vCluster Labs powers over 100,000 GPUs and 1 million CPUs across 50+ AI clouds. The platform enables AI cloud providers to deliver hyperscaler-like experiences on their own infrastructure, automating the full stack from bare metal provisioning through managed Kubernetes, Slurm, Ray, and inference clusters. The team is 40+ infrastructure engineers who build alongside customers. The company culture emphasizes action, ownership, open-source contribution, and defining tomorrow's standards in infrastructure. REQUIREMENTS: - Deep expertise in Kubernetes internals: architectural patterns, networking, storage, and how Kubernetes works at a fundamental level. - Strong programming skills in Go; ability to translate Kubernetes knowledge into clean, efficient code. - Builder mindset: active GitHub projects, experiments, or open-source contributions demonstrating passion for building. - High agency and self-driven approach; comfortable identifying and solving problems autonomously. - Experience in high-growth, startup environments; comfort with ambiguity and desire to make measurable impact. BONUS: - History of contributions to the Kubernetes project upstream (PRs, documentation, SIG participation). - Early-stage startup experience where you functioned autonomously.
