Beacon AI is building an AI platform to make flying safer, more efficient, and more capable. The company is backed by top investors, has secured a dozen Department of Defense contracts, and partners with major airlines to deliver mission-critical systems. The team operates without silos or heavy processes, with small focused teams owning what they build and shipping quickly.
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs that power the flight safety platform. You'll work closely with senior engineers and product partners to build reliable, scalable systems used by web and mobile applications. Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs for web and mobile applications
- Build reliable, scalable backend systems in production environments alongside senior engineers
- Integrate with internal and external data sources, including real-time and batch data pipelines
- Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional partners to deliver backend features supporting user-facing functionality
- Participate in code reviews and follow established backend best practices and architectural patterns
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and maintainability through testing, monitoring, and documentation
You'll contribute to production systems, grow your backend engineering skills, and play a meaningful role in supporting mission-critical, real-world applications in aviation.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience building backend systems, or equivalent experience through internships, projects, or coursework
- Experience with at least one modern backend language such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js)
- Familiarity with designing or consuming APIs and working with databases or data stores
- Exposure to production environments and understanding of reliability, performance, and security fundamentals
- Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn from feedback and mentorship
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-moving environment
- U.S. Person status required (U.S. citizen, Green Card holder, lawful permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status); no visa sponsorship available
Bonus qualifications: passion for aviation, exposure to data pipelines or real-time data systems, interest in machine learning or large-scale data processing, familiarity with cloud platforms or CI/CD workflows.
