Unipaas is an AI-native payments platform built for vertical software, helping platforms and marketplaces turn payments into a growth lever. The company delivers branded payment experiences without redirects or multiple providers, serving customers across the UK, Europe, and the US in education, healthcare, and field services. Founded in 2020 by payments-industry veterans, Unipaas has R&D in Tel Aviv and commercial operations in London.
You will join the R&D team as a Senior Software Engineer, owning product development end-to-end on the systems that authorize, settle, and reconcile transactions. This is an individual contributor role with room to grow into engineering leadership, where you will set technical direction in your domain and mentor other engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and evolving a distributed, event-driven platform spanning multiple services and frontend surfaces in a multi-vendor, multi-method, regulated payments context
- Owning features from ambiguous problem definition through production and ongoing monitoring
- Using AI agents day-to-day (parallel work, automated toil, tighter feedback loops) and raising the bar for team adoption
- Contributing to agent-driven flows that run in front of customers, not just behind the engineering team
- Engaging on architectural decisions and shaping engineering practices in your area
The engineering culture emphasizes clean architecture, deep systems thinking, attention to detail, and production-ready code. Engineers are generalists with high agency and end-to-end ownership. AI agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and emerging tools) are standard equipment, not experiments.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years building production systems with strong systems thinking and architectural judgment under uncertainty
- Deep proficiency in at least one modern language; comfort with TypeScript/Node.js (the company stack) or ability to ramp into it quickly
- Solid grounding in distributed systems at production scale on a major cloud provider (AWS): event-driven architectures, container orchestration, infrastructure as code, and operational craft (observability, debugging, incident response)
- Fluency with agentic engineering tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalents) as part of day-to-day workflow—not something tried, something shipped with
- High agency and track record of technical influence: setting direction and raising the bar for engineers around you
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience shipping AI or agentic features into production product surfaces
- Background in fintech, payments, or marketplace platforms
- Prior team-lead or tech-lead experience
