Salary: EUR 57,700 - 72,100 / annual
Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical Earth observation data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. The company controls every component of hardware design, manufacturing, data processing, and software engineering.
The Identity and Access Management (IAM) team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to evolve and maintain IAM services that enable secure, controlled data access across the Planet Insights Platform. The team's mission is continuous evolution of IAM services to support wide adoption of the platform for internal and external customers building Earth observation solutions. Current focus areas include facilitating machine-to-machine (M2M) communication between platform services and enabling secure data access in AI-powered solution development.
In this role, you will:
- Evolve existing IAM services and develop new features using Java and Python
- Design future IAM services in collaboration with multiple teams and cross-organizational stakeholders
- Champion platform adoption by developing tools, libraries, and technical documentation to help engineering teams integrate with IAM
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues related to IAM solutions
- Mentor junior colleagues and conduct design and code reviews
- Work with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platforms to ensure security, reliability, and ease of use
This is a full-time, hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the Ljubljana office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of software development experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to lead and drive domain-driven and technical discussions with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to technically lead and mentor a team of developers
- Experience with Java or similar object-oriented languages
- Experience with REST APIs and HTTP(S)
- Good understanding of relational databases
- Professional working proficiency in English
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Python
- Experience with authentication technologies (OAuth, IAM)
- Experience building scalable backend services and infrastructure (GCP or AWS)
- Expertise with Java 21+ for backend development (JAX-RS, CDI, Jackson)
- Experience with the Grafana ecosystem
