Neros Technologies is a defense technology company designing and manufacturing high-performance unmanned systems (drones) for modern warfare. The company operates at startup speed with a culture focused on rapid iteration, hands-on execution, and closing the gap between design and deployment.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Application team, you will build mission-critical tools and integrations that operators and engineers depend on in the field. Your work spans mission planning and control software, desktop applications, and integrations with external command-and-control and situational awareness systems. You will own major software components end-to-end, from initial design through production deployment and ongoing maintenance. Your software must function reliably even when network connectivity is intermittent or unavailable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain applications and integrations for operators and engineers, including mission planning, control, configuration, and monitoring tools
- Develop cross-platform desktop and web applications (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Own the data models, APIs, and external specifications your software depends on, even when those interfaces are incomplete or changing
- Design software that behaves correctly under intermittent or unavailable connectivity
- Build test harnesses and simulators to verify software without access to live partner systems or hardware
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests, partnering with the test organization on system and field validation
This is a hands-on role requiring extreme ownership and the ability to move fast in a defense technology environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying production software
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, or another modern application language
- Proven track record of owning significant software end-to-end, from design through production and post-launch
- Application development experience: cross-platform desktop (Electron, Qt, or similar) or modern web applications shipped to real users
- Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/UDP, message framing and serialization, designing for unreliable or high-latency links
- Experience working through interfaces you did not control—protocols, message formats, and APIs owned by other teams or organizations
- Experience building test harnesses or simulators for systems you could not test against directly
NICE TO HAVE:
- Production experience in more than one language
- TAK ecosystem experience (ATAK plugins in Java/Kotlin, WinTAK plugins in C#, TAK Server, Cursor on Target)
- MAVLink or other drone/robotics protocols
- Military or defense command-and-control or situational-awareness systems
- Geospatial and mapping (coordinate systems, datums, map rendering)
- Real-time operator interfaces (live telemetry, video, multi-vehicle displays)
- Embedded or device-facing software
- Android development
- Personal experience flying FPV, RC, or drones
