Salary: CAD 129,000 - 164,500 / annual
Greenhouse is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join their engineering team and contribute to their hiring platform. You will own high-complexity, often ambiguous projects end-to-end, partnering closely with your manager, product, and design teams. You'll provide technical guidance and mentorship across the team while bringing fluency in building with AI/agentic tools.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with Product Managers and Designers to define requirements and drive product development from conception to launch
- Leading project planning and execution within your triad (PM, Designer, Engineering Lead), effectively scoping and prioritizing work
- Contributing across the entire software development lifecycle: implementation, delivery, technical project/product management, and production support
- Developing clean, efficient, maintainable, and scalable production code for core services
- Working cross-functionally with engineering teams to deliver new features and enhancements
- Mentoring and guiding junior and mid-level engineers to foster their growth and development
- Actively participating in and leading team meetings (stand-ups, grooming, retrospectives)
- Conducting thorough code reviews and providing constructive feedback to uphold code quality
- Maintaining and improving code quality through comprehensive testing and debugging
- Adding agentic capabilities to the hiring pipeline
The ideal candidate is a mentor passionate about guiding peers, a pragmatic architect who evaluates trade-offs between performance and maintainability, an excellent communicator who explains technical concepts clearly to non-engineers, and an AI-fluent engineer already using tools like Claude to move faster.
Greenhouse is a remote-first company with shared office spaces in New York City and Ireland, plus optional co-working spaces. They use their own product for hiring and are committed to designing and responsibly using AI tools while keeping people at the center.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience contributing production code (required)
- Experience leading or owning projects and driving them to completion (required)
- Experience with Ruby, C#, Java, or Python (Ruby preferred)
- Direct experience with AI and agentic software development (Claude code, Codex, etc.)
- Strong understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals, including React
- Experience working full-stack
- Strong understanding of architectural patterns
- REST/web development experience
- Experience partnering closely with Product and Design partners
- Experience with Rails (preferred)
- Deep experience with integrations (a plus)
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada; sponsorship not available
