Salary: CAD 132,000 - 181,700 / annual

AlphaSense is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the Excel plugin strategy, integrating AI-driven market intelligence directly into the workflows of financial professionals. You'll build the bridge between AlphaSense's cutting-edge AI platform and Microsoft Excel, creating experiences that enable analysts, investors, and researchers at leading financial institutions to make smarter decisions without context-switching. In this role, you will develop and ship production-grade features for the Excel plugin that integrate AlphaSense's capabilities while respecting Excel's performance and stability requirements. You'll navigate complex integration challenges with Excel's object model, calculation engine, and event system to deliver features that feel native while accessing cloud-based intelligence. Your work will involve optimizing relentlessly to make complex operations feel instantaneous, managing memory carefully, and ensuring the plugin never degrades Excel's performance. You'll also uphold and contribute to team standards for development, testing, deployment, and monitoring of Office plugins, supporting junior engineers through code reviews and pairing sessions. Within your first year, you'll ship a plugin used by thousands of analysts at leading financial institutions, eliminating context-switching between Excel and research platforms while establishing the technical foundation and best practices that will guide AlphaSense's Office integration strategy for years to come. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years building and operating large-scale production systems - Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern development practices - Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, state management, and event-driven architectures - Experience with enterprise software deployment, updates, and version management - Track record of building performant applications with excellent error handling and recovery - Excellence in debugging complex integration issues and memory/performance optimization - Ability to mentor teams and establish development best practices PREFERRED: - Production experience with Office JavaScript API, VSTO, or COM add-ins - Knowledge of Excel's calculation engine, object model, and common power-user patterns - Understanding of financial modeling, data analysis workflows, or trading systems - Experience with React and modern frontend frameworks
