You will join the API Enterprise team, which sits at the intersection of DeepL's API platform and enterprise ecosystem. While the Core team focuses on self-service developer experience, your team owns enterprise customer adoption: usage insights, cost controls, RBAC, compliance, and data residency capabilities that enterprise IT and security teams depend on. The team is shifting from "Software-First" to "Product-First," hiring missionaries—builders who obsess over the Why before the How.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive Enterprise API Adoption: Own features that convert enterprise interest into durable adoption, including usage insights, cost and consumption controls, and governance tooling for large organizations to understand and manage API usage.
- Build for Governance & Compliance: Design controls for enterprise IT and security admins (roles and permissions, projects, data residency, audit-ability), making DeepL the compliant default for regulated global organizations.
- Guardianship of Quality & Production Reliability: Own services end-to-end, including on-call rotation participation, targeting four nines of reliability. Implement strong contract testing, monitoring, and SLOs to prevent breaking changes and security vulnerabilities.
- Architect Across the Enterprise Ecosystem: Work within DeepL's technical and organizational structures, navigating dependencies across teams and stakeholders to ship cohesive, reliable enterprise capabilities.

Requirements:
- Enterprise-First Mindset: Treat enterprise IT and security admins as primary users. Understand governance, cost control, compliance, response times, and data residency. Strong communicator comfortable owning product decisions.
- Backend Mastery at Scale (C# / .NET): Deep expertise designing scalable backend systems, RESTful APIs, and distributed architectures in C# / .NET. Proven experience with high-scale distributed systems in production. Strong API design fundamentals and system design expertise. Approximately 80-90% backend work; React/TypeScript frontend experience is a welcome plus, not required.
- Enterprise Platform Fluency: Hands-on experience with modern enterprise API building blocks (MCP, CLIs, OAuth). Ability to build secure, extensible integrations.
- Cross-Team Leadership: Track record of leading projects across multiple teams. Ability to align with different areas and stakeholders, manage cross-team contracts and dependencies, and maintain coherence in complex systems.
- Extreme Ownership & Operational Excellence: Own services end-to-end including production operations, incident response, and on-call duties. Motivated by pushing reliability toward four nines. Write comprehensive tests, learn from incidents, treat mature SLOs as core engineering feature.
- AI-Native Velocity: Leverage AI-powered tools (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate delivery and focus energy on high-value architecture and complex problem-solving.
- Bonus: Zero-downtime migrations on live systems; metering, quota, or usage-data systems experience; compliance environment experience (SOC 2, ISO 27001, C5, or similar).
