Smartly.io is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the AI Platform Team. The role focuses on building and maintaining backend services that power campaign optimization products, with a strong emphasis on machine learning integration and production deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services at the core of Smartly.io's campaign optimization products
- Serve as a core contributor to team planning, retrospectives, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support data scientists in bringing machine learning models to production
- Mentor team members on software development best practices including testing, monitoring, and clean code principles
- Improve software architecture, coding practices, tools, and processes
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and infrastructure stakeholders to translate business needs into viable technical solutions
- Conduct knowledge shares, lead productive meetings, and engage in pair programming and debugging
- Directly impact the experience of hundreds of advertisers using Smartly's platform
The team works with Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Node.js, Docker, and Kubernetes for microservices, plus TypeScript and React for frontend products. You'll be part of a company managing creative and media for 700+ brands worldwide and $6B in ad spend across major platforms including Facebook, Google, Instagram, Pinterest, Snap, and TikTok.

Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience developing and deploying production-quality software
- Strong Python skills (required)
- 2+ years of experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP)
- Experience developing and maintaining services under SLA
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving approach
- Passion for solving customer challenges while making thoughtful architectural decisions
- Adaptability and resilience when facing new or ambiguous challenges
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work 3 days per week at the Helsinki office
- M.Sc. in a relevant field (preferred)
Plus factors:
- Experience with NodeJS, React, TypeScript
- Hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Knowledge of MLOps concepts and tools (MLflow, Kubeflow)
