Smartly.io, an AI-powered advertising technology company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the AI Platform Team. The team focuses on helping marketers optimize their ad creatives (images, video, text) and campaigns using AI-based solutions across media and creative workflows.
In this role, you will design, build, and maintain backend services that power Smartly.io's campaign optimization products. You'll be a core contributor to the team, actively involved in work planning, retrospectives, and team improvement initiatives. Key responsibilities include supporting data scientists in bringing machine learning models to production, mentoring team members on software development best practices (testing, monitoring, clean code), and continuously improving software architecture and processes.
You will work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and infrastructure stakeholders to translate business needs into viable technical solutions. The role emphasizes soft skills development through knowledge sharing, productive meetings, and pair programming. You'll directly impact the daily workflows of hundreds of advertisers using Smartly's platform.
The tech stack includes Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Node.js, Docker, and Kubernetes for microservices, with TypeScript and React for frontend products. The position requires working 3 days per week at the Berlin office with a hybrid work model.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience developing and deploying production-quality software
- Strong Python skills (required)
- 2+ years of experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP)
- Experience with NodeJS, React, TypeScript (preferred)
- Hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow (preferred)
- Knowledge of MLOps concepts and tools like MLflow or Kubeflow (preferred)
- Experience developing and maintaining services under SLA
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving approach
- Passion for solving customer challenges while making thoughtful architectural decisions
- Adaptability and resilience with new or ambiguous challenges
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- M.Sc. in a relevant field (preferred)
