Salary: USD 175,000 - 250,000 / annual
Swayable is a rapidly-growing AI and cloud analytics platform that measures public opinion and the impact of messages and advertising content on audiences. Founded in 2018 by physics PhDs and led by the former Executive Director for Digital Strategy at the New York Times, the 40-person team is backed by top technology and social impact investors including Y Combinator. Clients include major consumer-facing brands (American Express, Airbnb, Paramount Pictures), technology companies (Anthropic, Meta, Amazon), academic researchers (MIT, Yale, Stanford), and mission-aligned civic advocacy campaigns focused on climate, human rights, and elections.
In this role, you will be a Senior Engineer blending Python software development expertise with scientific computing, machine learning, and AI experience to advance the state-of-the-art analytics engine powering the core product. You will be part of the team that productizes all AI, machine learning, and data analysis at Swayable. Your responsibilities include building, maintaining, and continuously improving tools, techniques, and architecture for high-performance computing. You will work with a talented team of engineers, data scientists, and research staff to build new features and solve novel problems across software engineering, data visualization, and science.
The technology stack includes Python (NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, Pandas, Celery, Flask), JavaScript (Vue.js, Node.js), MongoDB, and GraphQL.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of professional experience building scientific or quantitative data-intensive software
- Expertise in the scientific Python stack, object-oriented and test-driven development, vectorized code, and machine learning
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Expertise in architecting, maintaining, and optimizing distributed, parallel computing systems
- Keep up with the constantly evolving toolset for ML and AI Ops
- Knowledge of software architecture and ability to design scalable, performant solutions
- Value code quality and write maintainable, testable code
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree (MSc or Ph.D.) in STEM
- Thorough knowledge of the Linux operating system
- Experience with Celery and MongoDB
- Belief in the scientific method and using data to drive decisions
- Ability to give and receive informed, actionable feedback on technical and non-technical skills
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Strong communication skills, especially in writing; ability to write documentation and discuss implementation tradeoffs
