Sentry is an application monitoring platform trusted by 200,000+ organizations. The company is building AI-native observability tools, with a focus on agent tracing—helping developers debug LLM-powered software and multi-agent workflows.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Telemetry Experience team, you will own the Agent Tracing product surface end-to-end. This is a full-stack role spanning Python/Django and PostgreSQL on the backend, React and TypeScript on the frontend, built on top of Sentry's trace storage infrastructure.
Key responsibilities:
- Own projects from conception through customer impact: scoping, design, implementation across the stack, rollout, and measurement. You'll write design docs, break work into shippable pieces, and drive results.
- Build the interfaces developers use to debug agents: multi-agent workflows, conversation replay, cost and token breakdowns, failure detection. Making deeply nested, variable traces legible is a core interface challenge.
- Optimize the data layer: filter and sort millions of conversations efficiently, ensure accurate cost calculations, and design APIs for both human developers and AI agents.
- Expand from showing what happened to explaining what went wrong: surface common agent failure classes as actionable issues.
- Reduce friction in onboarding: make setup trivial across any stack, whether manual or agent-assisted.
- Collaborate daily with product managers, designers, SDK engineers, and other product engineers. You'll bring technical perspective to design decisions, explain constraints in user-impact terms, and own details others skip: empty states, error messages, loading behavior, edge cases.
You thrive when owning outcomes rather than tickets. You take ambiguous problems, decide what to build, drive it across team boundaries, and follow through post-launch. You're obsessed with smooth experiences—friction offends you. You solve for customer needs, not codebase elegance. You communicate clearly in writing (essential in a distributed company). You want to help shape a space still being figured out: agent observability is unsettled territory.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience building and shipping full-stack web applications
- Strong experience with React and TypeScript, and with Python (Django or similar) backed by a relational database such as PostgreSQL. Depth in one side and real competence on the other is acceptable.
- Track record of driving non-trivial projects end-to-end, including securing buy-in from other teams
- Comfort designing and building data-heavy interfaces with messy data shapes and large volumes
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
- Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools to enhance productivity and code quality
- Must live in the Vienna area or be willing to relocate
Bonus:
- Built something real with LLMs or agent frameworks; understand their failure modes firsthand
- Familiarity with application monitoring, observability, or OpenTelemetry
- Experience querying large-scale analytical data stores (ClickHouse or similar)
- Experience building developer-facing products, SDKs, or public APIs
- Open-source contribution track record
