Ophelia is a venture-backed healthcare startup providing FDA-approved medication and clinical care for opioid use disorder (OUD) through a telehealth platform. The company operates in 16 states and is backed by leading technology and healthcare investors. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Systems Engineer III), you will own reliability, availability, and performance of Ophelia's GCP platform. You will define and operationalize service level objectives (SLOs) and service level indicators (SLIs), drive work to improve endpoint latency and Cloud Run cold starts, and own the disaster recovery posture including Firestore backup/restore testing and multi-region resilience. Key responsibilities include: - Building observability and incident response infrastructure: extend GCP Cloud Operations setup, move alerting from Slack to PagerDuty, participate in on-call rotation, and mature incident categorization and escalation paths with AI-assisted triage. - Growing infrastructure as code: expand Terraform footprint across GCP configuration and improve GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline to make frequent deployments safer. - Hardening security and compliance controls in partnership with the head of IT, focusing on IAM, secrets management, audit logging, and HIPAA/SOC 2 infrastructure controls. - Multiplying team capability: level up engineers' GCP and DevOps skills through documentation, runbooks, pairing, and code review; bring reliability recommendations to new features early. - Taking ownership of projects end-to-end in a remote, growth-stage environment with autonomy and proactive communication. The tech stack is TypeScript/Node, React, and Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Hosting) running on Cloud Run in GCP. For the first six months, this role is entirely reliability-focused; after that, product work may comprise up to 25% of time. Ophelia actively encourages AI-augmented workflows, treating tools like Claude and Gemini as force multipliers for infrastructure code, runbooks, log analysis, and incident triage. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE-focused role, ideally at a growth-stage company with bespoke systems. - Expert-level, hands-on GCP fluency: serverless compute (Cloud Run), Cloud Operations (Logging, Monitoring, alerting), IAM, and Firebase/Firestore. Terraform fluency strongly preferred. - Expert in at least one infrastructure automation language (e.g., Python) and strong shell scripting. Comfortable reading and debugging TypeScript/Node. SQL for BigQuery and Log Analytics is a plus. - Production operations experience: on-call participation, incident response leadership, postmortem writing, and SLO definition per Google SRE practice, with judgment to adapt practices to small-team capacity. - Quantitative fluency applied to production systems: percentiles and tail latency, SLO and error-budget math, burn-rate alerting, time series and histogram analysis. - Senior-level ownership and communication: ability to own complex, ambiguous projects end-to-end with technical and non-technical stakeholders, clear proactive communication, and documentation habits (runbooks, postmortems, design docs). - Daily, hands-on use of AI tools in engineering work (e.g., Claude Code for Terraform, runbooks, log analysis) and experience building automation with them. PREFERRED: - Passion for making evidence-based addiction treatment universally accessible. - Background in regulated industry, ideally healthcare/telehealth, with hands-on HIPAA or SOC 2 infrastructure control implementation.
