AuthZed is a Series A company building SpiceDB and authorization infrastructure that enterprises depend on for access control. This is a senior engineering role at the intersection of site reliability, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and security.
You'll operate AuthZed's production platform while bringing deep security expertise to infrastructure design, software deployment, access management, threat detection, and incident response. As a senior engineer on a small team, you'll have significant ownership and influence across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operating and evolving Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure powering managed services, with focus on availability, scalability, performance, and security
- Advancing infrastructure security across Kubernetes, cloud, networking, IAM, secrets management, encryption, and service-to-service communication
- Securing the software supply chain from source code to production, including CI/CD, dependencies, container images, build artifacts, provenance, vulnerability scanning, and deployment controls
- Building automated guardrails, policies, and secure defaults into the engineering platform
- Evolving vulnerability management across containers, dependencies, infrastructure, and cloud services
- Expanding security telemetry, logging, alerting, and detection capabilities; developing incident-response playbooks
- Participating in SRE on-call rotation and leading production incident response
- Collaborating on architecture design, threat modeling, and security decisions across engineering
- Shaping AuthZed's security engineering strategy and technical priorities

REQUIREMENTS:
- Significant production systems experience as Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or Security Engineer
- Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized production environments
- Strong experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and its security model
- Strong understanding of IAM, workload identity, networking, TLS/PKI, encryption, secrets management, and cloud-native security
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi, Terraform, AWS CDK, or equivalent)
- Experience designing, operating, and securing CI/CD and software delivery pipelines
- Strong understanding of Linux and container security fundamentals
- Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, and production incident response
- Strong software engineering skills and inclination to solve operational and security challenges through automation
- Strong security judgment and ability to evaluate risk in distributed systems context
- Ability to operate independently, drive cross-functional projects, and provide technical leadership in small technical organizations
PREFERRED:
- Experience operating distributed databases or stateful distributed systems in production
- Experience securing multi-tenant SaaS or cloud infrastructure
- Experience with security architecture, threat modeling, penetration testing, or security assessments
- Relevant certifications: CKA, CKS, AWS Certified Security – Specialty, CISSP, or CCSP
