GrayMatter Robotics is a well-capitalized Physical AI company building Factory SuperIntelligence (FSI) through autonomous robotic systems that learn, adapt, and develop genuine process intelligence in manufacturing environments. The company operates a Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) model and has systems in active production today. As a Senior Robotics Engineer: Perception, you will join the development team onsite in Carson, CA to develop algorithms and architecture for production software, working directly with physical robots, sensors, and tools. The role focuses on the fundamentals of perception to solve practical manufacturing problems. Key responsibilities include: - Develop and implement algorithms, systems, and architecture for high-DOF robotic systems in manufacturing environments - Configure, troubleshoot, and develop low-latency robust interfaces for high-bandwidth, high-throughput sensor data - Develop computer vision and perception algorithms using multi-modal sensing for 3D geometry reconstruction, segmentation, and inspection - Design and own full active perception pipelines, including exploration strategies, viewpoint planning, and coverage optimization, integrated into robotic workflows - Develop high-performance production-ready software packages using GPU programming and hardware acceleration - Stay current with research and novel findings in robotics and AI - Maintain knowledge of product and hardware to provide technical assistance to internal and external teams at facilities and customer locations - Identify and resolve complex software issues through systematic debugging - Allocate approximately 30% of time to support application team for POCs, FATs, and deployments - Travel to client locations as needed for on-site system-level debugging and maintenance Requirements: - Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or similar engineering discipline - 2+ years of demonstrated industry experience developing, implementing, and testing algorithms for planning, learning, perception, or control - Experience developing complex function-based software interacting with sensor inputs, control loops, and redundancy - Proficiency in C++ and Python production-level coding - Strong experience implementing and optimizing 3D geometry algorithms (point cloud filtering, registration such as ICP and feature-based methods, segmentation) - Ability to fuse multi-view 2D and 3D sensor data (RGB + depth, multiple point clouds) into aligned point clouds or meshes - Hands-on experience with hardware vision sensors (Zivid, LMI, Ensenso, Realsense) and integration into software stacks - Familiarity with ML/DL methods for image and point cloud processing - Proven track record architecting perception pipelines combining classical 3D geometry with ML/DL approaches - Strong ML/DL background including 2D image segmentation, 3D semantic/instance segmentation of point clouds, defect detection, and hybrid learned-geometry methods - Experience designing and deploying multi-sensor fusion frameworks (calibration, synchronization, output merging) in real-world systems - Ability to lead hardware-software integration efforts and ensure robustness across deployments Preferred qualifications: - Advanced degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or similar engineering discipline - 5+ years deploying software systems in production environments - Experience designing and owning full active perception pipelines with exploration strategies, viewpoint planning, and coverage optimization integrated into robotic workflows
