Form Energy is hiring a Senior Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability and lifetime of iron-air battery packs and deployed systems. This role is based in Berkeley, CA and reports into the Systems Reliability team.
You will lead reliability test development and design-for-reliability (DfR) efforts for pack-level subsystems. As the primary technical authority on DfR for critical electro-mechanical plant subsystems supporting the battery manufacturing facility, you will mentor peers and guide cross-functional design failure analyses (DFMEAs).
Key responsibilities include:
- Translating high-level product goals into rigorous reliability requirements and defining the validation roadmap for component and sub-system lifetimes
- Designing and leading complex experiments to uncover failure mechanisms, determine root causes, and establish accelerated failure-rate testing methods
- Focusing testing efforts on industrial control panels for outdoor power electronics and associated subcomponents
- Championing safety across the organization
- Collaborating cross-functionally with peers and remote team members
Form Energy is a climate-tech company revolutionizing energy storage with cost-effective, multi-day iron-air battery systems. The company has been recognized by TIME as a "Best Invention," MIT Technology Review as a "Top Climate Tech Company To Watch," and Fast Company as "One of the Next Big Things In Tech." Production is underway at the company's first high-volume manufacturing facility in West Virginia, and they have signed contracts with leading US electric utilities.
Relocation assistance is available.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related field
- 3–7 years of industry experience
- Demonstrated expertise in developing new tests to evaluate performance and/or reliability of electrical and electromechanical systems
- Experience with outdoor power electronics or industrial control panels (including actuators, fans, and fluid systems); experience evaluating systems against UL 508A is a plus
- Familiarity with developing accelerated lifetime tests to assess component reliability across a range of operating conditions
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
