CesiumAstro develops advanced communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Senior Radiation Effects Engineer II to own key aspects of our radiation hardness assurance program, supporting both high-volume LEO applications and higher orbits. In this role, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of radiation effects engineering: simulating radiation environments for various orbits using tools such as OMERE, planning and conducting radiation tests (proton, heavy ion, total dose), and predicting upset rates by combining environmental data with test results. You will advise hardware engineers on part selection and guide software/firmware teams on radiation tolerance best practices including EDAC and watchdog timer implementation. System-level radiation risk analysis, participation in design reviews across hardware/software/firmware, and customer requirement digestion to shape product-level radiation roadmaps are core responsibilities. You will present engineering design review materials to customers and the executive team, participate in proposal-writing efforts, and help grow the radiation effects team through interviews, training, and mentorship. Advising Business Development on radiation effects for bids and proposals is also part of the scope. This is a hands-on, autonomous role in a dynamic, cross-functional startup environment where you will engage across the organization and stay current with industry practices, standards, and requirements. Note: U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status is required to comply with U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar discipline from an accredited university - Minimum 5 years of space product experience - Direct experience performing the responsibilities listed above (radiation environment simulation, test planning, upset rate prediction, part selection advisory, design review participation) - Direct experience working with automotive and high-volume commercial-grade parts in radiation environments - Strong understanding of radiation physics relevant to electronic components - Excellent written and spoken communication ability PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - Experience with ray tracing tools such as FASTRAD - Experience with radiation susceptibility of RF components including III-V transistors (GaAs, GaN) - Specialization in SEE (Single Event Effect) analysis and test of complex digital devices such as FPGAs, processors, and memories (RAM and NVM) - Working knowledge of Electronic Circuit Theory - Basic programming and scripting, such as Python - Managing databases of component test data
