Diesta is seeking a Senior Product Engineer with strong backend expertise to join their engineering team and help solve complex insurance-finance problems through well-scoped, well-built product features. This is a product-engineering role, not a ticket-taking backend position. You will understand customer workflows, challenge unclear specifications, identify risks, and help shape the smallest useful end-to-end version of features before building them. You will work primarily with NestJS, Node.js, TypeScript, MySQL, Docker, and AWS, with flexibility to contribute to the Angular portal where it improves delivery. Key responsibilities include: - Translating high-level product direction into practical implementation options and defining version-one scope - Designing, building, and maintaining backend services, APIs, workflows, and data-heavy capabilities for Diesta's payment operations platform - Going beyond spec implementation to flag gaps, edge cases, risks, and customer workflow issues before they become expensive to fix - Breaking complex domains (reconciliation, payouts, journals, reporting, integrations) into clear version-one paths and customer-facing releases - Contributing to backend architecture, data models, service boundaries, and implementation plans that balance speed, maintainability, reliability, and product value - Using AI-assisted development tools (OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, etc.) thoughtfully to explore codebases, produce implementation plans, write and review tests, and accelerate delivery - Building and maintaining automated tests, local environment simulations, validation scripts, and acceptance checks - Investigating bugs, incidents, and production issues, especially those affecting customer workflows and data correctness - Considering data protection, access control, auditability, and compliance implications in a financial operations environment - Collaborating with backend developers, frontend engineers, QA, DevOps, data engineers, product, operations, and leadership - Contributing clear technical and product documentation The role offers hybrid work from Diesta's central London office (Bank/Liverpool Street), private healthcare insurance, regular team lunches and international offsites, state-of-the-art technical equipment, and 22 days annual leave (excluding bank holidays). Requirements: The posting does not explicitly state years of experience or hard requirements. However, it seeks a Senior Product Engineer with strong backend experience, implying several years of professional backend development. Useful but not required experience includes: Angular or modern frontend frameworks, payment systems/fintech/insurance/banking/regulated data environments, automated testing frameworks, observability and production debugging, security and compliance concerns, AI-assisted tooling, and building personal products or internal tools.
