Rohlik is the leading Central European e-grocer operating across five markets (Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Romania) with over a million customers. The company delivers groceries from 17,000+ items within 15-minute windows, powered by warehouse automation, ML forecasting, and sophisticated logistics software.
You will join Group Tech, a single technology organization structured into small cells of three to five engineers. Each cell owns a single business metric and works closely with a Business Lead who owns the commercial outcome. This is a senior individual-contributor role where you will be the most experienced engineer in your cell, carrying the hardest technical work while mentoring peers.
Key responsibilities:
- Own your cell's North Star metric and deliver features that move it measurably
- Design, build, ship, and monitor features end-to-end, from concept through production deployment and on-call support
- Deploy dozens of times per day using trunk-based development, feature flags, and automated canary rollouts
- Lead at least two technical guild initiatives per year—cross-cell efforts that spread best practices and craft across the organization
- Mentor engineers through code review and technical guidance that makes the team measurably better
- Contribute architectural expertise to system design reviews and cross-cell technical discussions
- Identify and pay down technical debt before it slows the organization
The engineering culture is AI-native: most code contributions are agentic, engineers use Claude Code and Devin daily, and some merge requests merge on AI review alone. You will direct AI agents while maintaining the quality bar.
Your work ships to all five markets and reaches a million households. Leadership at this level runs through technical influence and initiative ownership rather than people management. You report to an Engineering Manager who still codes and shares on-call responsibilities.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional software development with a proven track record of delivering complex projects
- Degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical work from concept to launch and learn from production outcomes
- Deep expertise in system design, data modeling, and application architecture
- Comfort with AI-assisted development; ability to direct agents while maintaining quality standards
- Strong mentoring and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- Preferred: experience presenting technical concepts to mixed audiences, active open-source or technical community participation, or a master's degree in a relevant field
