Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical geospatial data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. The design team is seeking a Senior Product Designer to shape Planet's platform experience (insights.planet.com), responsible for defining core user journeys across the platform for diverse user types including admins, developers, and end users.
In this role, you will define jobs-to-be-done and design end-to-end user flows across web frontends and agentic workflows. You'll collaborate closely with Product and Engineering to decompose workflows into scalable, reusable UX building blocks, crafting a cohesive, user-centric platform experience. This is a full-stack design role: you take problems from discovery with users through to designing and building interfaces alongside engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead end-to-end product design from discovery and prototyping to high-fidelity design
- Create intuitive, powerful geospatial interfaces that translate complex data into actionable insights
- Gather feedback and conduct user interviews in collaboration with product partners
- Define and architect interaction patterns and design systems for Planet's platform
- Partner with product and engineering to ensure top-tier design quality
- Help build and elevate Planet's design culture
The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in either the Berlin or Haarlem office. Planet is a global company with employees working remotely worldwide and offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and The Netherlands.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years designing complex digital products with a track record of shipping technical, SaaS, or B2B software end-to-end
- Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent field
- Portfolio demonstrating geospatial or data analytics work: interactive maps, layered geospatial data, time series visualization (time sliders, change over time, comparisons), statistics, and charts
- Solid core craft in UX/UI, interaction design, prototyping, accessibility, and visual design; proficiency with Figma and enterprise design systems
- AI-native way of working: ability to prototype in code with AI coding assistants, comfortable with Git and merge requests
- Ability to conduct user interviews and usability testing independently, synthesizing findings into clear product direction
- Comfort with ambiguity; ability to drive vague, complex problems to validated solutions with minimal oversight
- Dynamic, iterative, low-ego collaboration style with PMs, engineers, and other designers
DESIRABLE:
- Experience designing for developers, data scientists, or AI agents
- Hands-on experience with remote sensing analysis and familiarity with geospatial standards
- Willingness to meet customers and travel within Europe
- Experience helping teams adopt new ways of working
