Salary: USD 130,000 - 225,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer to join its R&D team and help advance 3D printing technology. The company powers innovation at over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
In this role, you will work cross-functionally with mechatronics, software, and systems engineers to research, develop, and implement new products. You will innovate new approaches to 3D printing technology, work with design teams to move the technology forward, research and test new ideas, convert them to functional prototypes, and partner with design engineers to prepare final designs for manufacturing. The position requires systems thinking, hands-on prototyping skills, and the ability to bridge research concepts with manufacturing reality.
You will be part of a collaborative R&D team driven by innovation and great product development practices. The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration and requires the ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanism and mechatronic product design experience, including contributing to system architecture
- Experience with cross-disciplinary hardware prototyping (mechanical, electrical, and software)
- Experience working with and controlling sensors and actuators
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision making
- Working knowledge of material properties of plastics, metals, and adhesives
- Testing and analysis experience with hands-on testing focus and some simulation experience
- Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques
- Experience with statistical tolerance analysis techniques for precision mechanical design
