CesiumAstro develops advanced communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer II to join our dynamic startup team in Westminster, CO.
In this role, you will own end-to-end power electronics development across the full lifecycle: concept development, detailed design, analysis, PCB layout, testing, and production delivery. You will design power converters, power management circuits, and power supply modules for high-reliability space and aerospace applications. Your responsibilities include:
• Schematic design for low to high complexity power electronics, from single converters to multi-output power supply modules
• Independent PCB layout in Altium Designer or collaboration with PCB drafters
• Modeling and analysis using tools like SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, and MATLAB—including worst-case analysis, stress analysis, small-signal stability, efficiency optimization, and power integrity analysis
• Development of design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans
• Hands-on bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics circuits and modules
• Collaboration with multi-disciplinary engineering teams on system integration and qualification campaigns
• Mentoring of junior engineers to build technical understanding and foster professional development
• Research into emerging power electronics technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and IP generation
• Presentation of engineering design review materials to customers and executive leadership
This is a hands-on, impactful role in a startup environment where your work directly contributes to business success. You will work across concept through production, maintaining high technical rigor while operating with startup agility. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
• Minimum 5 years of industry or university research experience in board-level power electronics design, analysis, and test
• Experience owning the design phase of power electronics or power subsystems, including power architecture, requirements definition, trade studies, power converter and analog electronics design, component selection, and detailed design
• Experience performing or guiding complex PCB layout for analog and power electronics
• Proficiency with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, or MathCAD
• Strong laboratory testing and troubleshooting experience for prototyping, design verification testing, and qualification of analog and power electronics hardware
• Direct experience designing high-reliability electronics for automotive, space, or defense applications, including part derating, worst-case analysis, and thermal constraints
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Experience delivering subcircuit or board designs to production and deployment
• Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Altium, OrCAD/Allegro, PADS/Xpedition, or similar
• Experience running board-level power integrity simulation tools such as Ansys SiWave, ADS SIPro, or HyperLynx
• Design for space radiation environments
