CesiumAstro develops cutting-edge communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. The Skylark product line focuses on rapid design, build, and test of active phased array antennas (AESA) for terrestrial and airborne applications, spanning high-power ground terminals for missile defense to commercial airline and helicopter connectivity solutions.
As a Senior Power Electronics Engineer II, you will own end-to-end power electronics development from concept through production. This is a hands-on role where you will work across the full lifecycle: concept development, detailed design, analysis, board layout, testing, and delivery. You will design power converters, power management circuits, and power supply modules ranging from single converters to multi-output systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning end-to-end design of power converters and power management circuits from concept to production support
- Performing detailed schematic design for low to high complexity power electronics, including worst-case analysis, stress analysis, small signal and stability analysis, and power integrity analysis
- Performing PCB layout in Altium Designer independently or collaboratively
- Developing design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, and qualification test plans
- Conducting bring-up and design verification testing, often working with technicians or junior engineers
- Collaborating with multi-discipline teams on system integration and qualification campaigns
- Mentoring junior engineers and fostering their professional development
- Researching new power electronics technologies and industry trends to drive innovation
- Presenting engineering design review materials to customers and executive leadership
This is a startup environment where your work directly impacts business success. The role requires both technical breadth and depth, with high standards for reliability in space and airborne applications while maintaining startup agility. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 5 years of industry or university research experience in board-level power electronics design, analysis, and test
- Experience owning the design phase of power electronics or power subsystems, including power architecture, requirements definition, trade studies, power converter design, component selection, and detailed design
- Experience performing or guiding complex PCB layout for analog and power electronics
- Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, or MathCAD
- Strong laboratory testing and troubleshooting experience for prototyping, design verification testing, and qualification of analog and power electronics hardware
- Direct experience designing high-reliability electronics for automotive, space, or defense applications, including part derating, worst-case analysis, and thermal constraints
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience delivering subcircuit or board designs to production and deployment
- Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Altium, OrCAD/Allegro, PADS/Xpedition, or similar
- Experience running board-level power integrity simulation tools such as Ansys SiWave, ADS SIPro, or HyperLynx
- Design for space radiation environments
