Lumilens is building critical photonics infrastructure for AI supercomputing, including chip-to-chip optical interconnects and scalable photonic engines. The company is Series B-funded and led by veterans in transformative technology.
As a Senior Optical Manufacturing Test Engineer, you will own end-to-end manufacturing test operations for photonic components, modules, and systems. You'll validate quality and ensure compliance with performance specifications, supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and volume manufacturing.
Key responsibilities include:
- End-to-end manufacturing test ownership: manage test hardware changes under change control, ensure QMS compliance, handle equipment selection, tester BOM, test schematics, flows, and work instructions
- Develop, assemble, validate, and release testers for production
- Own product test yield, quality, and reliability metrics
- Design and conduct optical and fiber testing on components, devices, and systems
- Perform production calibration and testing of fiber optic components and modules
- Analyze test results for compliance with specifications and quality standards
- Define and execute continuous improvement plans for yield, cycle time, throughput, and scrap reduction
- Collaborate with quality teams on qualification testing and with design teams on DFM/DFT guidelines
- Generate comprehensive test reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Work with contract manufacturing partners on training, process guidelines, and change order reviews
- Develop troubleshooting guidelines, tools, templates, and data analysis frameworks
- Manage process control including SPC, GR&R, and correlation studies
- Collaborate with software engineers and database architects on manufacturing test data management solutions
- International travel required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 7+ years in high-volume optical transceiver manufacturing and/or automated test system development for electronics and optics
- Experience with transceiver module tests at 400G, 800G, 1.6T, etc. (preferred)
- Expert knowledge of optical test equipment and protocols for optical transceiver manufacturing and design
- Hands-on experience with optical test instruments (optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, polarization controllers, bit-error-rate testers)
- In-depth technical knowledge of yield analysis, problem solving, and manufacturing process implementation
- Familiarity with processor communication interfaces and test automation tools
- Data query and analysis skills using statistical tools (preferred)
- Practical experience in SPC, GR&R, tester correlation, and report generation
- Ability to write or adapt scripts for automation (Python, LabVIEW, Visual Basic; Shell scripting preferred)
- Experience in reliability testing and quality control best practices
- Deep understanding of quality management systems and quality standards
- Expertise in optics failure analysis processes and tools
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in geographically diverse cross-functional teams
- Fluent English (verbal and written), including presentation and mentoring skills
