Voltera is a rapidly scaling, profitable Canadian tech company in the additive electronics industry since 2013. The company serves customers across 92 countries with products including the V-One PCB printer (which integrates drilling, conductive material printing, solder paste dispensing, and circuit reflowing) and the NOVA materials dispensing system for flexible hybrid electronics prototyping.
In this Senior NPI Engineer role, you will serve as the primary technical liaison between Voltera's local Engineering and Production teams to ensure smooth New Product Introduction (NPI) handoffs. You will partner closely with offshore contract manufacturers and suppliers in Shenzhen, China, to ensure manufactured products strictly match design intent, accuracy, and quality standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as primary technical liaison between local Engineering and Production teams for NPI handoffs
- Partner with offshore contract manufacturers in Shenzhen to ensure products meet design specifications and quality standards
- Review, provide feedback on, and implement Design for Excellence (DFX) guidelines across DFM, DFA, DFT, DFR, and DFS for new and existing designs
- Develop, coordinate, and validate subassembly testing and calibration procedures for local and offshore production lines
- Proactively identify and resolve manufacturing, assembly, and testing bottlenecks leading to the critical April product launch
- Lead root-cause analysis for production defects or discrepancies, implementing corrective actions with local teams and overseas partners
Working conditions include a travel-heavy setup phase with frequent international travel to Shenzhen every 6-8 weeks for 1-2 weeks at a time over the first 8 months to support the April product launch. When not traveling, strong local presence is required to bridge in-house Engineering and Production teams. Occasional evening or early morning availability is necessary due to time zone differences with Shenzhen.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of proven professional experience in Mechanical and Production/Manufacturing Engineering
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- Fluent in speaking Mandarin and English to effectively negotiate, troubleshoot, and build relationships with Shenzhen partners
- Demonstrated experience working directly with offshore contract manufacturers and overseas supply chains
- Deep understanding of DFM and DFA principles, with ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications
- Strong project management and communication skills to align cross-functional teams (Engineering, Production, Supply Chain)
Nice to haves:
- Experience with OnShape (3D CAD)
- Background or hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Software Engineering (test automation/scripting)
- Experience designing and building physical test fixtures or calibration rigs for hardware products
- Familiarity with scaling production for mid-volume hardware or robotics products
