Gravitics is building large-scale orbital structures for commercial and government space missions. As a Senior Mechanisms Engineer, you will own the complete lifecycle of moving mechanical assemblies—from requirements definition and conceptual design through detailed design, development, assembly, verification, qualification testing, operation, manufacturing support, and post-flight analysis.
Key responsibilities include:
• Oversee the full product lifecycle of complex mechanical assemblies, including pressurized structures, launch adapters, mechanisms, and custom tooling
• Apply first-order hand calculations and empirical formulas to rapidly assess and iterate on designs
• Build and analyze finite element models to verify designs meet vehicle requirements
• Create detailed component and assembly drawings with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
• Design and implement custom tooling in support of programs
• Develop test plans and generate verification reports
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to execute designs, including schedule/budget management and non-conformance disposition
• Serve as the expert system owner from concept through mission operations
You will work across multiple locations (Denver, Cape Canaveral, Houston) on mission-critical space systems that demand both commercial innovation and defense-grade reliability.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 8+ years of professional experience in space vehicle, launch vehicle, or missile system programs
• Demonstrated ownership of complex projects
• Knowledge of loads (pressure, vibration, shock, thermal) and design methodologies for them
• Experience with motion/kinematic simulations
• Experience writing and executing structural test plans
• Familiarity with aerospace standard structural analysis methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, Shigley's, etc.)
• Proficiency with CAD packages (Siemens NX preferred)
• Experience with FEA/FEM tools (Nastran, ANSYS, FEMAP, or equivalent)
• Strong understanding and application of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and drafting standards
• Bachelor's degree in an applicable field (mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related discipline)
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status (ITAR compliance required)
BONUS:
• Proven history of mentoring junior engineers
• Experience with separation systems and docking/berthing systems
