Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced autonomous systems, AI, and sensor fusion technology. The Maritime Division develops software and hardware solutions for autonomous undersea and surface systems, including products like Dive-XL, Dive-LD, Copperhead, and Seabed Sentry. The division is executing billion-dollar contracts while scaling Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) autonomous underwater vehicle operations.
You will join the Undersea Reconnaissance & Strike team as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, supporting multiple vehicle variants through rapid prototyping and into rate production. This is a full lifecycle role spanning from system requirements and initial design through manufacturing and delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the complete product lifecycle from early prototype through rate production, involved in all phases from requirements through delivery
- Drive design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles into every decision, developing low-cost, producible designs that scale from prototype to production
- Navigate dynamic trade-space decisions incorporating external constraints, evolving requirements, timelines, and quality in a multi-stakeholder environment
- Contribute as a member of a multi-disciplinary integrated product team, bringing diverse perspectives
- Critically assess mechanical solutions for user value, manufacturing ease, delivery time, reliability, reusability across product lines, and iterability
- Make practical engineering trade-offs, prioritizing judgment and momentum over analysis paralysis
- Interact with end-users to understand needs and incorporate feedback into technical solutions
- Support integration and test activities
This role emphasizes working through ambiguity in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift and vehicle variants evolve. You'll be part of a small, high-output mechanical engineering group with real impact on national strategic priorities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or relevant field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of professional experience as a Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer
- Demonstrated experience taking designs from concept through multiple iterations into manufactured products—not just analysis, but actually building and shipping hardware
- Capacity to work holistically on complex electromechanical systems across design, implementation, operation, and sustainment
- Ability to learn and grow individually while building team cohesion and capacity
- Comfort working through ambiguity with shifting priorities and evolving vehicle variants
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in subsea, maritime, or autonomous underwater vehicle development
- Experience in aviation, robotics, or consumer products hardware, especially translatable to undersea systems
- Experience with design and manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, injection molding, composites, and/or additive manufacturing
- Exposure to design-for-manufacturing principles and rate production environments
